EUCTL GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2024

On May 7th, 2025, EUCTL held its fifth General Assembly in Brussels, the heart of EU politics. The well-attended hybrid event was marked by speeches from guest speakers from the EU Commission and EURATEX, as well as extensive discussion.

In the public session of the General Assembly, Ludovica Rossi from DG GROW reported on the current status of the REACH revision and on selected REACH activities of interest to EUCTL members. Then, Carsten Wentink from DG ENVI addressed the topic of ESPR - Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation - and specifically discussed activities related to the delegated act for textiles. The third guest speaker, Mauro Scalia from EURATEX, illustrated the challenges and difficulties that the the textile value chain is currently facing, also referred to the previously mentioned regulatory measures.

Guests from the partner organizations such as CEFIC, CIRFS, COTANCE also participated in the extensive discussion round. The contributions from the on-site and online participants clearly showed how much the current European regulatory activities and the need of a level playing field with non-European competitors affect the members of EUCTL, in an already uncertain and difficult economic situation. Therefore, an urgent appeal "Do not discriminate EU economy!" was made towards the Commission representatives and the EUCTL representatives as well as guest expressed their high interest to have the possibility to contribute to upcoming REACH revision and the Delegated Act on textiles within ESPR.
