Protecting workers’ health, putting on the market articles which are safe for the consumers and reducing impacts on the environment are paramount for the textile and leather chemicals industry in Europe.
A huge set of rules aiming at this fundamental objectives has been developed through the last decades by the European Union and applies to our production plants and to our products. The regulatory framework – always evolving - aims at making Europe a front runner and an example on the global scene.
But the engagement of companies represented by EUCTL is not limited to the strict application of these regulatory provisions: many projects, new products, research activities demonstrate the willingness to take forward continuous improvements in the fields of health, safety and environment.
Companies represented by EUCTL cover more than 70 % of the European production of chemicals for textiles and leather. The annual turnover is 4.2 billion ad more than the half of sales are target to extra-EU-markets.
Their products play a fundamental role in all phases of the production processes leading to the final article to be used by the consumer: for textiles, different chemicals are applied, from auxiliaries for fibers and yarn up to finishing/coating products; regarding leather, auxiliaries produced by our sector include from beam house chemicals up to finishing agents.
The Research and Development activities are very pronounced: a survey on companies represented by EUCTL show that 18% of employees are dedicated to exploration, research and invention of new substances or to the development of new formulations on the basis of known substances for existing markets and the development of new markets.
